History
In 1959, SOC Enterprises was founded by a group of parents who wanted to create meaningful job opportunities for their children with disabilities. At that time people with severe disabilities had limited work and community living options. They were more likely to be confined to an institution rather than be employed as a productive members of society. Starting in a storefront operation, SOC provided simple assembly and packaging work for a handful of individuals.

More than 230 guests, consumers, family members and awardees joined former SOC CEO Charles Richman, newly appointed CEO Linda Chandler, Arlington County Board Chair Barbara Favola and Delegate Bob Brink as SOC celebrated its 50th Anniversary on September 16, 2009 at the Sheraton Crystal City.
